Acne-Safe Haircare: Why Your Shampoo & Conditioner Might Matter More Than You'd Think..

If you’re dealing with recurring breakouts around:
The forehead + hairline
Temples
Jawline
Neck
Chest
Shoulders + back
…it might be worth taking a look at your haircare products.
Now this does NOT mean shampoo or conditioner is the root cause of acne. Acne is an internal and very multi-factorial. BUT hair products can sometimes contribute to extra irritation, congestion, and buildup on the skin, especially if products are heavy, highly fragranced, or constantly transferring onto the skin through your hair, pillowcase, sweat, or shower routine.
This is something I commonly look into with acne-prone clients, especially if they’re experiencing stubborn “outside perimeter” breakouts or body acne that isn’t improving.
Below are some haircare products that I personally find to be more acne-conscious or lower risk for acne-prone skin ✨
Shampoos
K18 Damage Shield Protective Shampoo, Reduces Frizziness & Tangles, Maintains Hair Health
Briogeo Be Gentle, Be Kind Aloe + Oat Milk Ultra Soothing Fragrance-free Hypoallergenic Shampoo
AG Care Colour Savour Colour Protection Shampoo, Protection from Fading
AG Care Renew Clarifying Shampoo, Remove Build Up, Colour Safe Sulfate-Free Shampoo
Conditioners
Treatments + Styling Products
A few extra tips ✨
Wash your body AFTER rinsing conditioner out
Avoid sleeping with heavy hair products on the skin
Keep styling products away from the forehead + jawline
Change pillowcases frequently
Clarify your scalp weekly if you use dry shampoo or styling products regularly
Sometimes small changes can make a really big difference over time when it comes to acne-prone skin
